Computing

Intent

At The Grange CP School, we aim to provide a rich and relevant computing curriculum that equips our pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a digitally connected world. Our intent aligns with the school’s vision of fostering excellence in teaching and learning, enabling all children to participate fully, excel in their achievements, and take pride in their success.

We are committed to:

  • Inspiring pupils to use technology creatively and effectively in their lives.

  • Equipping children with critical thinking and problem-solving skills through computational thinking.

  • Ensuring responsible and safe use of technology in line with robust online safety practices.

  • Providing an inclusive and accessible curriculum for all pupils, including those with special educational needs.

We believe that technology enriches learning, supports collaborative opportunities, and enables pupils to access new concepts and content in innovative ways.

Implementation

Our computing curriculum is built on the Purple Mash scheme of work, which offers flexibility, cross-curricular links, and comprehensive assessment tools to support both teachers and pupils. This progressive curriculum covers three core strands:

  1. Computer Science: Teaching pupils about algorithms, programming, and computational thinking.

  2. Information Technology: Enabling children to create, organise, and evaluate digital content.

  3. Digital Literacy: Equipping pupils to use technology safely, respectfully, and responsibly.

Key aspects of our implementation include:

  • A strong emphasis on e-safety, with a curriculum that is integrated throughout other subject areas and regularly reinforced through events such as Safer Internet Day.

  • Regular use of high-quality resources and hands-on activities to engage pupils and develop practical skills.

  • Differentiated support to ensure inclusivity, with additional access to technology provided for pupils with special educational needs.

  • Formative and summative assessments, supported by tools such as the 2Simple Computing Assessment Tool, to track progress and inform teaching.

Impact

The impact of our computing curriculum is measured through ongoing assessments, pupil voice, and the quality of work produced. By the time they leave The Grange CP School, pupils will:

  • Be confident in their use of technology and capable of applying their skills across various contexts.

  • Understand the importance of online safety and exhibit responsible digital behaviours.

  • Possess strong problem-solving and programming skills to tackle future challenges.

  • Be prepared to transition seamlessly to secondary school with a strong foundation in computing
