Day to day British Values

At The Grange Primary School we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons across the whole curriculum to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. This is underpinned by a range of curriculum topics which have strong links to the many facets of modern Britain.

Pupils debate about the advantages and disadvantages of democracy. We teach explicit lessons about how democracy works in Britain and give pupils a voice through may conduits such as school council and holding mock elections for posts within the school council and at general election times.

We place high emphasis on respecting and promoting Remembrance Day for World War 1 and World War 2; teaching British history; supporting and donating to charities such as food banks, hospices and charities such as Children in Need. Throughout the year, we celebrate significant British events such as St George’s Day and St David’s Day and recognise and celebrate the Royal Family and key dates such as the birth of new royals and weddings. As well as that, we also learn about key people in our history such as Winston Churchill, explorers and scientists.
